On Sunday September 4, 2011, Lee Roy Selmon, an Oklahoma legend, went to play football with all the greats of the past. He was 56 years old and will be greatly missed. He suffered a stroke at his home on Friday.

His wife released this comment "For all his accomplishments on and off the field, to us Lee Roy was the rock of our family. This has been a sudden and shocking event and we are devastated by this unexpected loss."

The Buccaneers owners, the Glaser Family, had this to say, "Tampa Bay has lost another giant. This is an incredibly somber day for Buccaneer fans, Sooner fans, and all football fans. Lee Roy's standing as the first Buc in the Hall of Fame surely distinguished him, but his stature off the field as the consummate gentleman put him in another stratosphere."

The Tampa Tribune reported there will be a memorial in Tampa before we welcome him back to Oklahoma to rest. God bless the Selmon family in this time of mourning. Thank you for sharing him with us.
