Billy Joe Armstrong, the lead vocalist of the popular band, was reportedly kicked off a Southwest flight for an offense of ‘sagging trousers’.
According to sources, Billy Joe was on the flight from Oakland to Burbank with his pants sagging down when a flight attendant walked up to him and asked him to pull his pants up.
When asked to do the needed, Billy Joe responded, Don't you have better things to do than worry about that?" Upon hearing the sharp retort, the flight attendant kept her composure and repeated her question and threatened to get him removed from the flight if he did not comply.
An ABC producer was travelling on the same flight and was a witness to the incident. He said that Green Day’s vocalist then replied to the flight attendant, "I'm just trying to get to my f***ing seat."
The details of the incident do not confirm whether Billy Joe’s underpants were showing with the sagging pants or not. This is not the first time a passenger has been escorted off the plane for sagging pants. In June, a football player was kicked off for wearing sagging pants on a US Airways flight at San Francisco International Airport.
Southwest Airlines officials quickly apologized to the singer and booked him on the next flight out, as they feared a lawsuit, according to sources.
39 year old Armstrong reportedly tweeted after the incident, "Just got kicked off a southwest flight because my pants sagged too low! What the f- ? No joke!" he posed on twitter late Thursday.
A spokesman for Southwest Airline Brad Hawkins was contacted for a comment on Friday to which he said he couldn’t; "We're still looking into what happened."
Billy Joe Armstrong’s manager was contacted for a comment but the message was not returned.
Southwest Airlines have had a similar incident previously when an airline employee in San Diego told a 23-year-old woman wearing a scoop-neck shirt to get off a plane because she was showing too much skin. This incident took place in 2007.
Billy Joe, apart from being a singer, is an occasional actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist, main songwriter and lead guitarist for the American punk rock band Green Day; however, he is also a guitarist and vocalist for the punk rock band Pinhead Gunpowder and provides lead vocals for Green Day's side project Foxboro Hot Tubs.
