Prayers go out forwho, along with brother Dewey, gave OU fans plenty to cheer about when the brothers played for the Sooners at Oklahoma University in the 70's. He suffered a stroke at his Tampa Bay, Florida home on Friday. He is still listed in critical condition at this writing.
The Selmon Brothers were a force to be reckoned with during their time with OU with Lee Roy winning both the Lombardi and Outland trophies. He was the first player ever drafted to the new expansion team going in the first round. Brother Dewey was also picked by the Buccaneers in the second round. After playing so well in high school and college they now were getting to showcase their talents together in the NFL.
Forced into retirement after 10 years due to injuries, the Selmon Brothers moved on in business with a chain of restaraunts and an awesome barbecue sauce sold in grocery stores across the south.
I watched many games with him playing and remember well the Selmon show because that is the name most heard. There were several brothers and I believe there was another, Lucious, that also played for OU.
Thanks Lee Roy, our hearts and prayers go out to you.
