
Yushau Shuaib of the government's National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria said heavy torrential rains caused the Odo Ona River to overflow and the Eleyele dam to collapse on Saturday sweeping away several homes and claiming 102 lives, CNN said.
The government and the Nigerian Red Cross were working together to deliver aid to thousands of people including those who were evacuated to relief centers in Ibadan area but many were still seeking help in remote places the rescue teams were unable to reach.
The deputy governor of Oyo state, Chief Moses Adeyemo has called on the federal government to provide more funding to resettle the many families displaced by the disaster and to reconstruct bridges and water channels destroyed by the flooding.
