Debbie and Rob Frost had been planning their silver wedding aniversary for three years. This special event was going to be celebrated by them in what has to be a truly unique way. They decided to renew their wedding vows in a holiday resort where they had enjoyed many happy holidays - Benidorm,
What made it extraordinary was walking from Staithwaite in West Yorkshire to Portsmouth. Embarking on a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander (Spain) and then walking from Santander to Menidorm and renewing their vows there in the church.
They had previously contacted the church who had agreed to hold the ceremony.
They achieved their ambition. Averaging 23 miles per day in the UK and 10 miles per day (less than the UK because of the extreme heat). Staying in pre-booked prepaid Travel Lodge hotel each night The budget was £15 per day for food. Each of them wearing a rucksack and no other luggage.
En route they visited several towns and places of interest and lost their way a couple of times; but made it in the time they had planned - ONE MONTH.
Finally arriving at their hotel in Benidorm they were greeted by their sons; Robert 24, Daniel 22, and Nathan 16 plus all the other family members who had made the trip.
The marathon journey was sponsored with the monies going to Cancer Research an illness which had raised it's ugly head in the family.
The next morning the whole group walked to the church and at the appointed time the ceremony was held. They both said the ceremony was all they could have wished for and the whole experience would be a fantastic memory for both of them to treasure for the rest of their lives.
Happy family celebrations followed the ceremony with the whole family.
A delightful love story to report in these troubled times.
