An anti-Israel Facebook group is being "destroyed" by an organisation of Jewish activists known as the Jewish Internet Defense Force (JIDF).
The JIDF took control of the group “Israel is not a country! Delist it from Facebook as a country” and is steadily deleting its members. The group’s location has been changed to “Jerusalem, Israel”, and its profile photo – a map of Palestine – replaced with an image of an Israeli fighter jet.
A JIDF statement posted on the hacked site claimed that the group was “one of the most vile, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist sites on the internet”.
“Despite thousands of user complaints over the course of eighteen months, Facebook allowed this group and its ubiquitous anti-Semitic lies to flourish”, it continued.
The JIDF was established in 2000 to “promote pro-Israeli coverage on the internet” during the second Intifada, and has since challenged content it deems anti-Semitic on websites such as Facebook, Wikipedia and YouTube.
