More than usual rains in Nigeria have wrecked havoc as no less than 102 people are reportedly killed in floods. According to the reports heavy rains during this season is not an abnormal activity, but this year the rains have crossed previous all records.
The heavy rains which started on Friday have badly affected city of Ibadan. Bridges and roads have been washed away by the floods. The rain water took along with it the shanty houses of the people. Most of those who have been swept away are small children who could not battle the gushing waters.
According to the Red Cross of Nigeria many people are still trapped in the destroyed houses and other buildings. They say the death toll will be much higher once the water recedes and the exact number of those missing or killed is known. About 2,000 residents have so far been displaced.
