The road police will traditionally launch the ten days of “safe traffic” on September 1st, Head of the Road Patrol Department of RA Road Police, Colonel Norik Sargsyan told a press conference.

During the coming ten days the police will work in a special regime to control the roads and areas near schools to ensure the security of schoolchildren.

The Colonel urges parents to teach their children the basic traffic rules. Special courses will be organized for schoolchildren in the near future.

Six road accidents were registered during the first decade of September in 2010, as a result one child died, another six were injured.

The 1 135 traffic accidents registered in Armenia over the first seven months of 2011 have left 150 dead and 1 697 injured, Norik Sargsyan said. The number of road accidents has increased with 143 as compared to the same period of 2010.

According to the Colonel, this is connected with the introduction of the compulsory car insurance and the import of cars from abroad. The number of cars in Armenia has increased with 15 428 during the first seven months of the current year.
