Rick Perry: Social Security A 'Monstrous Lie'

August 30, 2011 - Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry has been blazing the campaign trail with his message on Social Security, calling it a ‘Ponzi scheme.' But when faced with questions from voters in Iowa, Perry avoided coming right out and saying that as president, he would eliminate the popular retirement program.

"It is a Ponzi scheme for these young people," Perry insisted. "The idea that they're working and paying into Social Security today, that the current program is going to be there for them, is a lie," according to the LA Times.

In his book Fed Up, Perry claimed that Social Security was a violation of the Constitution.

According to Perry, Social Security is a "monstrous lie."

Texas Governor Perry has strong views against the New Deal and would likely attempt to eliminate all of it if he had the ability to do so.
