Eid Al Fitr - Boston USA

As the holy month of Ramadan finsihes and the new moon of Shawwal is seen in the sky, Muslims around the world get ready for the joyous celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Eid in Arabic terminology means rejoicing. Fitr means breaking fast. Thus after fasting in Ramadan, the Muslims break their fasts and enjoy the festival of Eid al-Fitr. Eid is the time of happiness for both the rich and the poor. Thus, Muslims are recommended to pay alms to the poor on the day of Eid. This obliged charity is known as Zakat Fitr.

Muslims head to Eid prayers and say verses praising God.

Muslims visit their families, relatives, neighbors and friends on this occasion. The children are specially excited for the money they receive as gifts from the adults. Family gathering and reunion are held during this time.
