NASA Now Discovers Liquid on Saturn's Moon

NASA seems to have started doing justice to all those tax dollars. Its latest discovery is the presence of liquid hydrocarbons on the surface of Saturn's moon, Titan.

The hydrocarbon is ethane, which is a component of crude oil. Scientists have known for some time that Titan is covered by hundreds of dark lake-like impressions. But it is only now confirmed that the impressions are filled with fluid rather than dark, solid material.

Data on Titan has been collected by the Cassini spacecraft which has made over 40 fly-bys of planet Saturn to learn more about its surface, atmosphere and surrounding rings. The current mission is a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency.
