Bladder Cancer (Part 2 of 2)

Lighting up gives you four times greater risk for developing the cancer

Research from the National Cancer Institute now reveals that within the last two and half decades bladder cancer risk from smoking has risen and the risk for women is no safer than it is for men.

The reasoning for this remarked increase just may be due to the design of the cigarette, this according to researchers. The tar and nicotine levels in cigarettes have decrease but the amount of specific cancer chemicals have increased. One such chemical is beta-napthlamine, a bladder carcinogen.

The research had used information from over 450,000 participants in the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study (a large lifestyle and health investigation in the United States). Smoking habits and history facts were gathered, along with the progress of those participating were monitored from October 1995 to December 2006.

Examination of the new information had revealed that in comparison to those who just started smoking current smokers had a 2.2 times more risk of bladder cancer.

In the United States 443,000 people die prematurely due to smoking or second hand smoke each year. Another 8.6 million Americans live but have serious health conditions related to smoking according to the CDC.

A spokesperson from the Department of Health had revealed that over 80,000 people in England also die due to smoking associated cancer.

Just very recently researchers had determined who smoke also face the high risk for bladder cancer. The study which appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals that around half of bladder cancer cases in women are due to smoking. This new figure is up from twenty to thirty percent in past studies.

According to WHO, tobacco use is the single most important of bladder cancer. Even though the bladder is not exposed directly to tobacco smoke, polyaromatic hydrocarbons acknowledged as carcinogenic could be absorbed into the blood and sent to the bladder where the bladder cells are not able to tolerate the carcinogenic effects of the compounds.

The best advice from medical practitioners is not to smoke, if you do not smoke do not start lighting up and if you do it is best for your health and life to stop smoking.

There are alternative therapies in which can help smoking cessation:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has demonstrated good results for smoking cessation, especially using acupuncture points on the ear. It also eases the symptoms of withdraw.

Yoga

The teachings of yoga provide you with awareness and self-control. The benefits of yoga are helpful because it will be easier to control the urge to smoke and provide mental and physical fortitude to be able to help manage nicotine withdraw.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can alter behavior and often is the starting point to quit smoking which is difficult. Hypnosis is a state of relaxation much like what you experience before going into a deep sleep. It is the alpha state of low brain frequency where you can explore into the memory to find the origins of the problem.

A study which was conducted at the San Francisco VA Medical Center and the University of California San Francisco had reveled that hypnosis is a very useful treatment for quitting smoking. Also, hypnotherapy was found to be especially useful for those would be quitters with history of depression.
