Mother of alleged Boston bombers says sons are innocent
RT (Russian TV) News has conducted a riveting interview of the mother of alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva. The suspects, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnayev, who was killed after a police chase and firefight, and his brother, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, have led law enforcement on a wild and woolly chase across Boston and its suburb of Watertown.
At this writing, law enforcement officials are closing in on a boat sitting in a Watertown, Mass. backyard where all media reports indicate that Dzhokhar is holed up and pinned down. He is believed to be wounded and bleeding.
It has been reported by most news outlets that it was either a civilian neighbor or the homeowner himself who reported Tsarnaev's possible presence in the boat. He noticed an out-of-place ladder and a blood trail leading to the otherwise completely tarp-covered boat. That person was observant enough to perceive that neither the ladder nor the blood had been near the boat earlier in the day.
Some reports indicate that this civilian actually saw movement of a "body" inside the boat.
The Tsarnayev family originates from Russia's North Caucasus, but immigrated to the United States more than a decade ago.
In the interview, Ms. Tsarnayev is adamant that her sons could not possibly be involved in the Boston Marathon massacre which occurred on Monday.
“Never, ever!” she declared, would or could her sons do the things of which they are accused.
When asked by the interviewer how then would she explain the documented, running gun battle that her sons had had with the police just last night, Ms. Tsarnayev shouted that her sons had been “set up.”
"I am 100 percent sure that this is a setup," she told Russia Today. "My two sons are really innocent and neither of them have ever talked about what they said now."
She did admit, however, that the older son, Tamerlan, was involved in "religious politics" five years ago.
And, interestingly, she mentioned, almost in passing, that she had been contacted by the FBI about Tamerlan before the bombs exploded on Monday at the Boston Marathon finish line.
"He was controlled by the FBI for five years," she said."They knew what my son was doing, they knew what sites on the Internet he was going [to], they used to come...and talk to me...they were telling me that he was a serious leader and they were afraid of him."
"So how could this happen?" asked RT.
"It's impossible for both of them to do those things," she added. "If there was anyone who would know, it would be me, the mother."
The men's father and their aunt also insisted Friday that the two men were innocent and had been set up by the police.
UPDATE: It is now being reported that the 19-year-old suspect has been arrested, and is alive, though wounded.
