Convicted murderer, van der Sloot to be extradited to U.S for charges in Halloway case?
The process to extradite Joran van der Sloot to the U.S. to face extortion charges in the Natalee Holloway's case has reportedly begun.
Sloot, who is currently serving 28 years in prison for the May 30, 2010 brutal murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in Lima, Peru, may soon be shipped here for a judge there has allegedly already signed the request by the U.S., reported CNN on Tuesday.
Sloot told the Peruvian authorities that he killed Flores because she was snooping on his computer. Incidentally, the young woman was stabbed to death on the 5 year anniversary of Natalee Holloway's disappearance.
The 24-year-old tried to extort money from Halloway's mom--offering to tell her where her daughter was and how she died, in exchange for $25,000. He reneged on his promise and to this day Mrs. Halloway doesn't know where her child is or if she's dead or alive.
Van der Sloot who was the only suspect in the disappearance of then 18 year old Holloway, has never been charged in connection with the case, even if she was last seen with him. He was detained briefly then released.
The high school graduate from Mountain Brook, Alabama, was visiting the Dutch Caribbean Island of Aruba with her graduation class in 2005, when she diappeared. Witnesses reported that she had left a nightclub and gotten into a car with van der Sloot and his 2 friends. She has never been seen since that fateful night.
Sloot has since confessed to an undecover reporter to killing Holloway, then recanted saying he made the whole thing up.
Another American woman has diappeared without a trace on the Caribbean island of Aruba, from the same beach town of Orangjestad. 35 year old dental assistant from Maryland, Robyn Gardner vanished on August 5, 2011, while on a week's vacation with companion 51 year old Gary Giordano. The wealthy businessman was held by Aruban authorities in connection with her disappearance but was released for lack of evidence.
He has since flown back to his Gaithersburg, Maryland home.
