Austin officials confirmed that the local police arrested 7 people last night, on charges of criminal trespass.
Last night police started to break the Occupy Austin encampment, moving protesters who, for nearly four months, had set up sleeping bags, signs and a makeshift library in front of City Hall.
Austin officials had said already that they didn’t have any plan to vacate Occupy Austin protesters because they were engaging in a peaceful assembly protected by the First Amendment.
In spite of this announcement, last night after a peaceful demonstration by protesters, police attacked their camp and arrested seven people.
The protesters were voicing discontent with the NDAA particularly the part that deals with detention of persons the government suspects of involvement in terrorism.
Americans do not feel comfortable knowing that their president has the complete authority to detain any individual, lawful resident aliens and American citizens, under the claim that they are suspected of terrorism without concrete evidence.
