The Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed regret for the "unacceptable behavior of a few of the protesters" and said that Iran believes in the international laws and regulations and respects the immunity of diplomatic places.
According to Iran news Agency (IRNA), Iranian authorities say that they were unware of protesters' attempt to enter the Embassy and the effort of the police was futile to prevent it.
Earlier the British Foreign Ministry had expressed its resentment and had called it utterly unacceptable.
This ministry had emphasized that based on international laws and the Vienna Convention, Iran is responsible to protect diplomats and embassies in this country.
According to IRIB News, Today, a number of the angry students who had intended to occupy the British Embassy (in Ferdowsi Street), threw Cocktail-Molotovs and stones into the embassy. Based on this attack there had been broken windows of the embassy and a corner of the small building behind the main gate was set on fire.
Also Islamic Republic News Agency reported: "Some of the British secret and spy documents have been confiscated during the invasion to the British embassy in the Gholhak region."
In the images published today, a car is set on fire inside the embassy and some of the attackers are bringing out documents and property from inside the building.
In the recent weeks, after the British government decided to tighten sanctions against Iran, the relation between Iran and Britain was strained. Following that, the Iranian parliament retified the reduced relations with Britain as to level the chargé d'affaires.
